Braces treatment can help individuals looking for a healthier and better looking smile. They are a responsibility, though, and need to be look after by the patient during the course of treatment. This video takes a look at the most important things to know before getting braces.
The first thing to know is how braces are put on. First, the orthodontist will take x-rays and moldings of the teeth to properly map the locations of the brackets. The brackets then adhere to the teeth. Some orthodontists do this individually, while others use a mold to bind them all at the same time.
Another important thing to know is that the length of treatment will change from patient to patient. It depends on the severity of the case and the corrections needed, it may take a year or two years.
It’s recommended to brush your teeth above, below, and on the brackets and wires to properly clean the braces and your teeth. You can also use a proxy brush to get in between the wires and your teeth. Flossing is more involved, but can still be done easily with a flossing tool.
