An Interview with Dr. Robert K. Klein of Highland Dental Clinic

Dr. Robert K. Klein has been treating patients at the Highland Dental Clinic for ten years. We sat down with him to discuss his experience running his own practice.

Dr. Klein, what inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry?

I learned from my father, a dentist for over 35 years, the joy of helping people have the ability to smile and eat for their entire lives.

As a father yourself, do you have any plans to pass the torch?

My five-year-old daughter, Lillian, is adamant that she will follow in my footsteps and become a dentist who works with her dad.

Having your dad as a role model must have been a real inspiration! What was the process of finding your own niche like?

Dealing both with patient fears of having treatment and their losses of function from missing teeth led us to develop a practice that addresses both concerns. We offer all levels of sedation, up to general anesthesia, with a board-certified anesthesiologist, and we emphasize the restoration of patients’ missing teeth through dental implants.

Were those concentrations part of your business plan from the beginning?

I didn’t anticipate the huge need for sedation. Not many offices offer every level of sedation, from nitrous oxide to oral sedation to IV sedation to general anesthesia.

It sounds like that’s an important part of your practice. What would you say is the most rewarding part of your work?

Helping people overcome their fears of dentistry and restoring their mouths to full function.
